In-Office procedures

Novant Health Valaoras & Lewis OB/GYN is proud to offer a number of permanent birth control and endometrial ablation procedures in our office. This means you can have these procedures completed in a familiar environment with a staff you know and trust.

Procedures we offer include:

Essure is permanent birth control. Over a few months, flexible inserts placed in your fallopian tubes form barriers, blocking sperm from reaching your eggs. The nonsurgical procedure is completed in our office in just minutes and causes little discomfort. Click here to learn more about how Essure works.

NovaSure is a five-minute procedure that can lighten or end heavy periods. NovaSure uses radiofrequency energy to remove the endometrium, the lining of the uterus that causes bleeding. NovaSure is a good solution for women who are done having children and want to put an end to heavy periods without hormones. To learn more about NovaSure, click here.

THERMACHOICE is another type of endometrial ablation procedure. In just eight minutes, a soft, flexible balloon is inserted into the uterus. The balloon is filled with fluid, which is heated and circulated. This treats the uterine lining, causing it to shed.

With Nexplanon, up to three years of brith control can be achieved with one 4-centimeter long implant. Nexplanon is placed under the skin on the inside of your upper arm. Your doctor will numb the skin on your arm before placing the implant. You will wear a bandage for about a day after Nexplanon is placed. It is not noticeable, and is 99 percent effective. It works by continuously releasing progestin, a hormone that keeps your body from releasing an egg. The implant can be removed at any time should you want to become pregnant.

Clinical trials

Our office is regularly involved in clinical trials, and these trials often include the procedures mentioned above. Click here to learn more.
