Dr. A.J. Lewis offers minimally invasive surgery including surgery using the revolutionary da Vinci Surgical System. Dr. Lewis is fully trained and certified in robotic surgery for women. He performs the procedures at the Maya Angelou Women's Health & Wellness Center at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center. The center offers world-class surgical facilities and complete post-surgical care.

Laparoscopic Surgery Options

Minimally invasive surgeries including minimally invasive laparoscopic hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) and minimally invasive myomectomy (removal of uterine fibroids) require much smaller incisions than traditional surgery. This can shorten recovery time and reduce the risk of infection.

Dr. Valaoras and Dr. Lewis are trained in advanced laparoscopy which includes the total laparoscopic hysterectomy. This involves removal of the uterus with or without the ovaries using laparoscopic instruments, which are placed through three or four very small incisions each about 1/8 of an inch in size, on the abdominal wall. Recovery time is much faster than the traditional hysterectomy, and is much less painful. An overnight stay in the hospital is all that is usually necessary.
