Ultrasounds and lab services

Novant Health Valaoras & Lewis OB/GYN offers a variety of ultrasound and lab services here in our offices so you can receive those services without making additional appointments or traveling to other offices.

Ultrasounds

We offer both diagnostic ultrasounds for gynecologic conditions and prenatal ultrasounds to check on the growth and development of your unborn child. Ultrasounds will be performed in our office, and the images will be reviewed by one of our doctors. You will have an appointment following your ultrasound or receive a phone call afterwards to discuss it with one of our providers.

Gynecologic ultrasounds are performed on an as-needed basis to examine structures within the body.

Prenatal ultrasounds are typically performed:

• Early in your pregnancy to confirm viability.
• Around week 12, if you are getting a first-trimester genetic screening. This is an optional test performed at an outside facility.
• Between 18 and 22 weeks. This ultrasound can show your baby's major organ systems, and body parts are measured to determine adequate growth. The placenta is examined, and the baby's sex can often be determined during this ultrasound, if desired.

Lab services

Our in-office lab draws blood and collects urine specimens, so you can get important testing done during your appointment. This can help your provider quickly identify a problem and begin treatment, if necessary.

Lab tests regularly drawn in our office include:

• Urinalysis
• Blood tests, including tests for infections, anemia and STDs
• Pap tests
