A.J. Lewis, MD, says there is more to quality health care than understanding a woman's medical history. "At Novant Health Valaoras & Lewis OB/GYN, we are able to provide excellent, cutting-edge care for women with a personal touch that can only come from a small practice," Dr. Lewis explained. "I am able to provide better medical care by knowing about my patients' lives, and that can only happen in an office where doctors and staff take the time to get to know each patient as a person."

Dr. Lewis has time to get to know his patients in part because of unique scheduling in the office. "We schedule longer appointment times with each patient than most offices do," Dr. Lewis shared. "Dr. Valaoras and I are both committed to giving our patients the attention they need, even if that means seeing fewer patients in a day."

Even though the office is small, Dr. Lewis says the capabilities are endless. "Not only do I get to see women through pregnancies, I also get to see women on a yearly basis as they and their children grow," he said. "I can offer everything from prenatal care and annual gynecologic care to help with gynecologic problems. From a surgical standpoint, I am really excited about the way technology has made it possible to perform major procedures through very small incisions or even without an incision. This has made it much easier for women to get the care they need without a long or painful recovery."

A Winston-Salem native, Dr. Lewis is happy to be serving the community he has always considered home. "I went away for high school and spent some time studying in Europe during college, but I always found my way back to Winston," he said. "My wife, Diane, and I agree it's a great place to raise our two sons. I coach their baseball teams and serve on the board of the Winston-Salem Nationals Little League. I'm also an avid Wake Forest sports fan, so it's great to be able to tailgate before games. Go Deacs!"
